AI Comparisons (2026): Every Head-to-Head on One Page, With the Verdict and the Price Question

Twenty-two AI matchups on one page, from Claude vs ChatGPT to Claude Pro vs Max. Each row has the one-line verdict from the full post and the price question that actually separates the two, which is rarely the sticker price.

AI Comparisons (2026): Every Head-to-Head on One Page, With the Verdict and the Price Question

This blog has run twenty-two AI comparisons since June. Most of them end the same way, with a split decision, and the reasons they split turned out to be more useful than any single winner would have been. So here they all are on one page. Each row has the one-line verdict from the full post and the price question that actually separates the two products. That is rarely the sticker price, because most of these plans cost the same $20.

I update this page when a new comparison ships. The testing, the sources and the dates I read each vendor's pricing page live in the linked posts.

ChatGPT vs the Rest

Matchup The verdict The price question
Claude vs ChatGPT Claude goes deep on writing, careful reasoning and long documents. ChatGPT goes wide on everyday range, current information and the tools around it. Both paid plans are $20, so price can't break the tie.
Gemini vs ChatGPT Gemini wins on scale, meaning long documents, Google-grounded search and mixed media. ChatGPT wins on craft and everyday polish. $19.99 against $20, and both vendors sell the same 5x and 20x rungs at $100 and $200 above that.
Grok vs ChatGPT Grok for real-time information and blunt takes. ChatGPT for writing and range. SuperGrok is $30 to Plus's $20, and xAI publishes no usage figures for what the $30 buys.
Perplexity vs ChatGPT Perplexity for sourced, current research you can cite. ChatGPT for turning it into writing. Both $20. Perplexity meters its advanced searches, ChatGPT meters uploads, images and research.
DeepSeek vs ChatGPT DeepSeek gives away the thinking. ChatGPT sells the everything. Free against $20, and the free one comes with almost no product around the model.
Meta AI vs ChatGPT Meta's model is closed, good, and free only inside apps that use your chats to target ads. The real line runs between the ad-supported tiers of both and the paid tiers of either.
Kimi vs ChatGPT Kimi puts its best model on the free plan. ChatGPT wins once you pay. Kimi bills every message, chat included, against one credit pool. ChatGPT lists chat as unlimited and charges for its better models.

Claude, Gemini, Grok and Perplexity Against Each Other

Matchup The verdict The price question
Claude vs Gemini Claude for craft and for following a complicated brief. Gemini for huge documents, live Google facts and already being inside Gmail and Docs. For light users price decides it. Google sells a $4.99 plan and Anthropic has nothing under $20.
Grok vs Claude Not paying, take Grok. Paying, take Claude. xAI puts its current model on the free plan and charges for volume. Anthropic charges for its better model first.
Perplexity vs Claude Perplexity answers questions. Claude does work. Both $20. Perplexity meters questions, Claude meters working time.

Three-, Four- and Five-Way Comparisons

Matchup The verdict The price question
Claude vs ChatGPT vs Gemini No podium, a map. Claude for depth, ChatGPT for breadth, Gemini for scale. Three $20 plans, so the question is which two gaps you'll live with.
Grok vs ChatGPT vs Gemini On anything current, Grok reads the conversation, Gemini reads the record and ChatGPT reads a curated middle. Roughly $70 a month to cover all three.
Perplexity vs ChatGPT vs Claude Research is an assembly line. Perplexity finds and checks the facts, Claude reads the sources closely and writes them up, and ChatGPT covers the quick questions and brainstorming around them. Three $20 plans for one research workflow.
Claude vs ChatGPT vs Gemini vs Grok Claude writes it best, ChatGPT does the most, Gemini holds the most, Grok knows first and Perplexity proves it. About $110 a month for the whole lineup at retail.
DeepSeek and Qwen vs ChatGPT DeepSeek for reasoning depth, Qwen for multilingual work, ChatGPT still the most complete product. Both Chinese models are free. The privacy caution belongs to their official apps, not to the open-weight models.
Claude vs Grok vs Gemini for school Decided by what each one accepts. Only Gemini takes a lecture recording, and Claude takes the biggest documents. The student offers differ more than the plans do, and every one is compared here.

Plan vs Plan

Matchup The verdict The price question
ChatGPT Plus vs Claude Pro Same $20, different meters. At the limit Claude stops, and ChatGPT quietly moves you to a smaller model. $20 each, or $17 a month for Claude Pro paid annually.
ChatGPT Go vs Plus vs Pro Go suits casual daily chat with ads. Plus is the fair price if one vendor is enough. Pro is for people whose work stalls at Plus's ceilings. Go $6, Plus $20, and Pro at $100, $200 or a new $500 tier.
Claude Pro vs Max Max 5x charges five times Pro's price for five times the usage, so it's the same rate. Only the $200 rung discounts anything. $20, $100 and $200. Annual Pro is cheaper per unit than Max 5x.
ChatGPT Plus vs Business OpenAI's grids match on 57 of 82 rows. What matters is off the grid. On Business you can't export or delete your own chats. $25 a seat against $20.

Tiers Inside One Vendor

Matchup The verdict The price question
Claude Opus vs Sonnet vs Haiku It's two dials now, model and effort, not three tiers. Haiku is the genuinely different one. Sonnet's per-token price is 60% below Opus, yet it finished a full benchmark run for only 13% less.
Gemini Thinking vs Pro Thinking isn't a model any more. Since 17 May it's a level you set on Flash-Lite, Flash or Pro. The app's Flash outscores its Pro on Artificial Analysis, but on its highest thinking setting it costs nearly twice as much per task as Pro.

Before You Compare: Prices and Limits

Half of these verdicts turn on a meter rather than a model. Keep the cost and limits guides open alongside them.

If You're Leaving One Entirely

A comparison assumes you're choosing between two. Sometimes you're just leaving. For that there's the best ChatGPT alternatives, Poe alternatives now that its knowledge base is gone, Sora alternatives for video, and the team workspaces Juma and Langdock.

Why So Few of These Have a Winner

Read the verdict column top to bottom and a pattern shows up. The model matchups almost never end in a knockout. They split by task, and what changes most from vendor to vendor is the meter rather than the intelligence: what the free plan includes, what $20 buys, and what happens when you run out. I didn't expect that when I started this series, and it's the main thing I'd tell anyone about to pick a plan.

That's the case for not picking. izzedo chat puts ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Perplexity, DeepSeek, Kimi and more in one thread for $6 a month. You send each task to the model that wins it and switch mid-conversation without pasting anything twice. When a verdict above says "it depends on the task", that's the setup it depends on.

Frequently asked questions

Which AI is best in 2026?

None of them across the board. In the comparisons on this page, Claude leads on writing and careful reasoning, ChatGPT on everyday range, Gemini on long documents and Google-grounded search, Grok on real-time information and Perplexity on sourced research. The useful question is which one leads the task in front of you.

Is ChatGPT better than Claude?

For range, yes. For writing, editing and long documents, Claude is stronger. Both paid plans cost $20 a month, so the tie comes down to which half of your work matters more, and to how each plan meters you: Claude stops at its limit, ChatGPT switches you to a smaller model.

Which AI subscription is the best value?

It depends which meter you mind. Google sells a $4.99 plan with no Anthropic equivalent, xAI puts its current model on Grok's free plan, and Claude Max 5x charges exactly Pro's rate per unit of usage. If you want more than one vendor's models, a multi-model workspace like izzedo chat puts them in one thread for $6 a month, which is less than any single $20 plan.

How often is this page updated?

Whenever a new comparison is published or an existing one changes its verdict. Each linked post carries its own read dates for the prices and limits it quotes.
